When someone searches "dentist near me" or "interior designer in Dehradun", Google shows a map with three businesses before any website. Those three get most of the calls. Your Google Business Profile decides whether you are one of them, and most of the work is free.
Set up the basics correctly
- Claim and verify your profile. Search your business on Google Maps. If it exists, claim it; if not, create it at business.google.com and complete verification.
- Use your real business name. Don't add keywords or city names to the name. It can get your profile suspended.
- Choose the right primary category. This is the single most important setting. Pick the most specific one ("Dental clinic", not "Doctor"), then add a few relevant secondary categories.
- Keep name, address and phone identical everywhere: on your website, Justdial, IndiaMART, Facebook and so on.
- Add accurate hours, including special hours for festivals and holidays.
- Link your website and WhatsApp. Add your website URL and enable chat or add your WhatsApp number where available.
Make the profile convincing
- Write a clear description of what you do, who you serve and the areas you cover, in plain language.
- Add services or products with prices where it makes sense. People compare before they call.
- Upload real photos regularly: outside (so people can find you), inside, your team and your work. Real photos beat stock images.
Keep it active
- Ask every happy customer for a review, and make it easy by sending your review link on WhatsApp right after the job. Never buy or write fake reviews; Google removes them and can penalise the profile.
- Reply to every review, good and bad, politely and within a few days.
- Post updates such as offers, new work and events. A profile that looks active builds trust.
How long does it take?
Fixing the basics can show results within a few weeks for less competitive searches. In crowded categories and big cities, reviews and steady activity over a few months make the real difference.
