Meta Ads Getting Clicks but No Leads? 7 Reasons and How to Fix Them

You boosted a post or ran a campaign for a few days, spent ₹1,000 or ₹5,000, and got likes, a few profile visits, maybe some clicks, but no real enquiries. This is the most common message we get from business owners, and the good news is that the cause is usually one of seven fixable mistakes.

1. The campaign objective is wrong

Meta optimises for exactly what you ask for. If you choose Engagement or press the Boost button, Meta finds people who like and comment, not people who message businesses. If you choose Traffic, it finds people who click links, often by accident.

Fix: for local businesses, use the Leads or Engagement → Messaging objective with WhatsApp as the destination, or the Calls objective if your customers prefer to phone.

2. The budget is spread across too many ad sets

Three ad sets at ₹300 a day each means none of them gets enough results for Meta's system to learn who your buyer is. Each one stays in the "learning" phase and delivers expensive, random results.

Fix: start with one campaign, one ad set and two or three ads. Give it at least 5 to 7 days before judging.

3. The targeting is too narrow or too wide

Adding ten interests and a tight age range can shrink your audience until ads become very expensive. Targeting the whole state for a local clinic does the opposite: you pay to reach people who will never travel to you.

Fix: target a sensible radius around your business (for example 8 to 15 km in a city), a broad age range, and let the creative do the filtering.

4. The first three seconds don't stop the scroll

People decide in a moment whether to keep watching. A logo animation or a slow introduction loses them before your offer appears.

Fix: open with the problem your customer has, in their own words, or show the result straight away. Put the offer and price on screen early.

5. There is no clear offer

"Best quality services, contact us" gives nobody a reason to message today. Compare that with "Free homepage design in 24 hours, pay only if you like it" or "Free dental check-up this week".

Fix: give one clear, low-risk reason to send a message now.

6. Nobody replies fast enough

A lead who messages at 8 pm and gets a reply the next afternoon has usually moved on. Slow replies make good campaigns look like bad ones.

Fix: set up a WhatsApp Business greeting message and quick replies, and make sure someone answers within minutes during business hours.

7. You are judging too early, or measuring the wrong number

One day and ₹1,000 is not enough to judge a campaign, and likes and reach are not the number that matters.

Fix: track one number, cost per enquiry. Give a campaign a fair test (usually a week), keep what produces enquiries at a cost you can afford, and switch off the rest.

A simple checklist before your next campaign

  • Objective: Leads, Messaging (WhatsApp) or Calls, not Boost
  • One campaign, one ad set, two or three ads
  • Location radius that matches where your customers come from
  • A hook in the first three seconds and a clear offer
  • WhatsApp greeting message set up, and someone ready to reply
  • Judge after 5 to 7 days on cost per enquiry
