Ask five people what a website costs and you will hear five answers, from ₹3,000 to ₹3 lakh. Both can be honest prices. The difference is in what is included, who owns it, and whether the website is built to bring customers or just to exist.
What decides the price of a website
- Number of pages and content: who writes the text, and who arranges the photos.
- Design: a ready-made theme with your logo, or a layout designed around your business.
- Features: a contact form and WhatsApp button are simple; online payments, bookings, logins and catalogues take more work.
- Domain, hosting and SSL: sometimes included for the first year, sometimes charged separately.
- Support after launch: who makes changes, and what that costs.
Around ₹3,000 to ₹6,000
Usually a ready-made theme, a page or two, your logo and phone number. It can be fine for a very small business that just needs to exist online. Check carefully: is the domain registered in your name, is hosting included, and is the site fast on a phone? Cheap sites are often slow and rarely bring enquiries on their own.
Around ₹8,000 to ₹20,000
This is where most small businesses should be. You should expect around five pages, a mobile-first layout, WhatsApp and call buttons on every page, an enquiry form, Google Maps, basic SEO setup and a year of domain, hosting and SSL. For example, our own business website package is ₹9,999 + GST with these inclusions, and an online store is ₹14,999 + GST.
Around ₹25,000 to ₹60,000
Custom design, more pages, professionally written content, a blog, or an online store with a larger catalogue. Worth it when your business depends on the website, such as a clinic chain, a builder with several projects, or a brand selling online across India.
₹1 lakh and above
Custom software territory: booking systems, customer portals, multi-vendor stores, integrations with billing or CRM. Price here depends entirely on scope and should be quoted in writing after a requirement call.
Hidden costs to ask about
- Renewal: domain and hosting renew every year. Ask the renewal price up front.
- Ownership: the domain should be registered in your name, not the agency's.
- Changes: are small text and photo updates free, or charged per change?
- Paid plugins or themes: some need yearly licences.
- Content: is writing the text included, or do you have to provide everything?
What a small business actually needs
For most local businesses, the right website answers three questions on the first screen: what you do, why someone should trust you, and how to contact you. It loads quickly on an ordinary phone, has a WhatsApp button on every page, and is connected to your Google Business Profile. Anything beyond that should earn its place.
